Women's Lacrosse: Bates Nets Eight As Eagles Snap Skid And Top Blue Jays, 10-8

West Hartford, Conn. – Natalie Bates (N. Kingstown, R.I.) scored eight goals as the Daniel Webster women's lacrosse team halted a six-game losing streak and defeated Saint Joseph College (Conn.) Monday 12-10 in a regional matchup.
With the victory, Daniel Webster improves to 4-7 overall, tying the program record for victories in a season set in 2010. Saint Joseph dropped to 3-9.
Bates scored her first goal, 1:44 seconds into the game to stake the Eagles to a 1-0 lead. Saint Joseph followed with the next two tallies to take its only lead of the game. Erika Leitao (Newington, Conn.) scored 6:53 into the contest and Dayna Gambino (Newington, Conn.) scored the first of her team-high six goals 1:39 later to put Saint Joseph up, 2-1.
But a five-goal run – started and ended by Bates goals – put Daniel Webster ahead 6-2 and the Eagles led 6-4 at the break.
Bates scored the first two goals of the half and Gambino followed with the next two and the second half played out in kind, with Saint Joseph playing catch-up and unable to get closer than the final two-goal margin.
Leitao scored twice for Saint Joseph and Giovanna Piasecki (Hamden, Conn.) and Diana Soucier (Avon, Conn.) each had one.
Eveline Lopez, (Dorchester, Mass.), Samantha Cotoni (Groton, Mass.), Kaylea Parkin (Red Hook, N.Y.) and Samantha Crooker (Gilford, N.H.) had one goal apiece for Daniel Webster.
Daniel Webster returns home to face Anna Maria on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
