Women's Basketball: Eagles Bounce Back, Ground Hawks 79-55

Nashua - Sophomore guard Vanessa Bosques (N. Windham, Conn.) knocked down a game high 25 points and pulled in eight rebounds leading five players in double figures as the Daniel Webster College women's basketball team remained perfect in league play with a 79-55 victory over Becker College in a New England Collegiate Conference matchup Saturday at Mario Vagge Gymnasium.
Bosques notched four three-pointers and added three assists while fellow sophomore Alycia Gervais (Windham, Conn.), junior Tonisha Tate (Lynn, Mass.) and junior Joyce Chagan (Boothbay Harbor, Maine) all notched 12 points as the Eagles bounced back from a Thhursday night loss and continued their best start in history in improving to 11-4 overall and remained unbeaten in NECC play at 6-0.
Tate added a season high four assists while sophomore Alyssa Regan (Salem, Mass.) added 10 points and three assists.
Junior Heidi Miller (Sanbornton, N.H.) led the Hawks (3-12, 3-3 NECC) with 21 points and seven rebounds while senior Shannon Tibbetts (Warren, Mass.) notched 13 and senior Courtney Fiske (Westfield, Mass.) added 11 with three three-pointers.
The Eagles never trailed after the five-minute mark when Becker held a 9-7 lead taking control midway through the first half with a 6-0 run keyed by layups from Regan and Kirsten Murphy (Woodstock, Vt.) to snap an 11-11 tie.
DWC closed the half with a 10-5 run including baskets from Ariel Guzman (Yonkers, N.Y.), Tate and Chagan and the Eagles held a 36-25 lead at the break.
Trailing by 11 (46-35), Becker closed the gap to six on a Miller layup and trey from Fiske for a 46-40 game with 11:30 left, but a Chagan three from deep in the left corner was followed by a Tate three-point play and the Eagles never let Becker closer than nine the rest of the way.
The Eagles dominated inside for most of the contest, finishing with sizable scoring advantages in the paint (44-14) and had 24 second-chance points to Becker's eight.
The Eagles also controlled the boards, finishing with a 49-33 advantage including 17 on the offensive glass to the Hawks' nine, with Gervais pulling down five of her seven rebounds under the Becker hoop.
The Eagles are off until Tuesday night when they visit Bay Path College in a NECC meeting at 8:00 p.m.
Becker hosts Lesley Tuesday in a NECC clash beginning at 7:00 p.m.
