Nashua, N.H. – The duo of Stephanie Evans (Washington, Iowa) and Elain Chambers (Bellingham, Mass.) each went a combined 7 for 9 at the plate with Chambers racking up seven total RBI as host Daniel Webster swept Pine Manor 23-2 and 16-2 in a pair of regional softball contests Wednesday at Eagle Field. Both contests went five innings.
The wins halted an 11-game slide for DWC (3-14), who host Regis in a NECC pair on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. tentative start time. Pine Manor visits Fisher on Saturday for a pair beginning at 2:00 p.m.
As a team, DWC combined to hit 39 of 68 (.882) with 13 doubles and a pair of triples.
Danica Nadeau (Monmouth, Maine) and Kaitlyn Mitchell (Voluntown, Conn.) each went 6 for 8 knocking in three RBI each. Amber Roberts (Berlin, N.H.) added four total hits, knocked in five runs and picked up both victories in the pitcher's circle.
Serena Goncalves (Lakeland, Fla.) combined for three hits for the Gators (2-12), while Kristina Giunta (Boston, Mass.) had a pair hits with a double.
In the opener, DWC combined for 29 hits and were aided by five Gator errors. The Eagles plated six runs in the first, one in the second, two in the third and 14 in the fourth.
Chambers knocked in five runs and nearly hit for the cycle with a single two doubled and a triple with one double missing clearing the fence by inches. Mitchell was 4 for 4 with two RBI, Nadeau was 4 for 5 with two doubles and three RBI and Skylar Evans (Cranston, R.I.) was 3 for 5 with three RBI.
In all, every Eagle notched at least one hit and nine of 10 who played knocked in at least one run.
Roberts struck out seven, walked four and allowed no earned runs scattering five Gator hits.
Ashley Whiteshield (Seward, Ala.) doubled for PMC, which plated both their runs in the third.
In the nightcap, DWC was paced by Stephanie Evans, who was 4 for 4 with two doubles and three RBI, while Roberts added a pair of hits and also knocked in three. Chambers added three doubles including two more near-miss homers to deep left, and knocked in two.
Roberts picked up the win (3-14) allowing two earned runs on five hits, adding seven strikeouts and two walks.
Goncalves was 2 for 2 for PMC.
PMC grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the first on a Giunta RBI double, but the Eagles followed with three in the bottom of the frame including a Skylar Evans two-run double, and opened things up with a six-spot in the second and two in the third.
