Softball: Eight Straight For Eagles With Sweep Of Fisher

Nashua – Senior Amy Waller (Berlin, Mass.) continued her hot hand, combining to hit 6 for 8 at the leadoff spot knocking in three runs and Samantha Hill (Hudson, N.H.) combined to go 4 for 6 with four RBI helping host Daniel Webster to a sweep of Fisher College, 11-3 and 15-1 in a pair of five-inning regional games Tuesday at Eagle Field.

Sarah Durocher (Keene, N.H.) knocked in five runs over the two wins, adding a complete game victory in the nightcap as the Eagles (14-11), reached the second most wins in a season in program history and kept the NAIA Falcons (0-33) winless. DWC also won for the eighth straight time for the second longest win streak in program history and improved to 11-1 over their last 12.

In the opener, Durocher went 3 for 4 knocking in three, while Waller, who is now 12 for her last 14 over four games, added three hits. Skye Ferland (Eden, Vt.) was 2 for 3 with two RBI. Chelsey Crawford (Westfield, Mass.), Heather Strong (Palmer, Mass.) and Hill added a pair of hits and knocked in a run each.

Senior Amanda Wilson (Merrimack, N.H.) earned her eighth win of the season (8-5), allowing three earned runs on six hits, striking out four and walking five.

DWC took control early sending 14 women to the plate in scoring eight runs on 11 hits in the first inning. Key hits included a RBI double from Hill, a RBI triple from Lauren Chesnulevich (Hudson, N.H.) and two run-scoring singles from Durocher.

Fisher would strike for three in the top of the fifth on two hits and an Eagle error including a Debbie Fuller (Hampton. N.H.) RBI double and a Demi Bourous (West Islip, N.Y.) run-scoring single.

The Eagles would close it out in the bottom of the fifth plating three runs on four hits including a two-run double from Ferland and another Durocher RBI single.

Kaleigh Gilbert (Lawrence, Mass.) took the loss.

In the nightcap, Waller added three more hits and knocked in two, Hill was 2 for 3 with three RBI, and both Durocher and Courtney Brennan (Beverly, Mass.) knocked in two runs apiece.

Durocher earned the victory on the mound (6-6) allowing one unearned run on three hits, striking out four.

DWC struck for two in the first on a Chesnulevich RBI double and a Hill sac fly before Fisher pushed their lone run across in the top of the second on a Shannon May (Exeter, N.H.) sac bunt for a 2-1 game.

But the Eagles answered with 10 runs on six hits in the bottom of the second sending 14 to plate and were aided by a key Falcon error leading to nine unearned runs. Hill would belt a RBI double and Brennan added a two-run double as part of the rally.

The Eagles would tack on three in the fourth as Durocher singled home two runs and Hill added another run-scoring single for the 15-1 final.

Gilbert took the loss on the mound for the Falcons.

The Eagles return to action on Thursday when they visit Lesley in a NECC doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Fisher visits Houghton for the start of a four-game American Mideast Conference weekend set on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
