Softball: Crawford Earns Second NECC Rookie Of The Week Honors

(Nashua, N.H.) – For the second time this season, Daniel Webster College softball player Chelsey Crawford of Westfield, Mass. (Westfield HS) has been named “Rookie of the Week” by the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC).

Crawford, a freshman center fielder, hit .433 (13-30), slugged .767 with two doubles, a triple and two home runs, scored nine runs, stole three bases, and knocked in 16 over an eight-game span this past week as the Eagles went 4-4 overall.

Crawford opened the week going a combined 3 for 5 with three RBI, a home run, and a steal in a doubleheader loss to Mitchell College on April 19th. She followed going 3 for 7 with four RBI and four runs scored in a sweep of Wheelock College on April 21st.

Crawford continued with a 1 for 3 outing knocking in four runs with a triple and stole once as part of a doubleheader sweep of Newbury College on April 24th. She closed her week on a tear, going 6 for 10 with a double, home run, and five RBI in dropping two games to Bay Path College on April 25th.

In the field, Crawford was perfect with 19 putouts in center.

On the season, Crawford has started all 23 games, and is hitting .333 (26-78) with four doubles, three triples, two home runs, has scored 15 and has knocked in 21. She sports a team-best slugging percentage of .538 and adds a .341 on-base percentage. In the field, she sports a .953 average.

Crawford was also the Eagles' top rookie this past Fall with the women's volleyball program, earning NECC “Rookie of the Year” honors.

Under the guidance of first year Head Coach Alex Hill, the Eagles are 9-14 overall

(4-6 NECC) and return to action Tuesday when they host Becker College in a NECC doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m.
