Softball: Eagles Earn Split At St. Joseph's, Conn.

West Hartford, Conn. -- Sophomore Erin Stocking (Meriden, CT) had three hits and three RBI in the second game as Saint Joseph defeated Daniel Webster 13-9 to salvage a split of a doubleheader Monday at Saint Joseph. Daniel Webster won the first game, 10-8.
Saint Joseph is 13-10 overall and Daniel Webster is 4-7.
In all, Daniel Webster had 28 hits and Saint Joseph 24. The Blue
Jays led early in the first game, but could not recover from
allowing six, sixth-inning runs and falling behind 8-4.
Daniel Webster freshman Julie Medeiros (Derry, NH) had a two-run
double to pull the Eagles even at 4-4 and a sacrifice fly from
freshman catcher Kyla Palaschak (E. Bridgewater, MA) scored
Medeiros to give Daniel Webster the lead for good during the
sixth-inning rally.
Saint Joseph fell behind three times in the first three innings
of the second game, but battled back each time, tying the score at
2 after one inning, at 3 after two innings and leading for good at
6-5 after three.
A third-inning single by sophomore Ashley Ryan (Waterbury, CT)
scored Bryanna Durant (Middletown, CT) to break a 5-5 tie and cap a
three-run rally. The Blue Jays opened up some breathing room with a
six-run fourth inning. Freshman Emily Hummel (Hebron, CT) had a
two-run single and senior Heather Tworzydlo (Dayville, CT) a
two-run double in the rally.
Hummel, junior Susie Waters (Wrentham, MA) and junior Melanie Bush (Bristol, CT) each finished the day with four hits for Saint Joseph, with Hummel also scoring four runs apiece. Bush pitched five innings for her first victory of the season.
For Daniel Webster, sophomore Lauren Chesnulevich (Hudson, NH) and senior Kristina Rieger (Concord, NH) each finished the day with four hits. Chesnulevich also scored three times and went the distance for the win in Game 1.
