Softball: Rieger Helps Eagles Earn Split With Fisher
Nashua – Senior Kristina Rieger (Concord, N.H.) went 4 for 4 scoring three runs and went the distance on the mound, allowing two earned runs on 10 hits as the Daniel Webster softball team topped Fisher College, 6-3 to earn a split in doubleheader softball action Wednesday at Eagle Field.
Rieger doubled and knocked in one at the plate and improved to 2-1 on the mound this season as the Eagles, who scored four unearned runs and were aided by six Falcon errors, moved to 3-6 overall after Fisher had taken the opener, 5-2.
Rookie Kyla Palaschak (East Bridgewater, Mass.) went 2 for 3 for DWC, while senior Amanda Varricchio (Middletown, Conn.) added two hits with a double and scored twice.
Jessica Augusta (Lawrence, Mass.) went 3 for 3 knocking in a run to pace the Falcons (3-13), while Mika Wilson took the loss (2-7), allowing two earned runs on 10 hits over seven innings.
The Eagles plated three in the first keyed by a Rieger RBI double and aided by two errors and added single runs in the third, fifth and sixth.
Michelle Oliverio (Everett, Mass.) had a RBI double and Debbie Fuller (Hampton, N.H.) added a RBI single in the fourth.
In the opener, the Eagles held a 2-0 lead heading into the top of the seventh before the Falcons erupted for five runs on five hits and were helped by two Eagle errors to take the victory.
Fuller had the big blow for Fisher with a two-run double in the frame, while Brittany Calderon (Rockland, Mass.) had a run scoring single and Amanda Davis added a RBI double.
Calderon (1-5) earned the win going the distance, allowing two runs on seven hits, striking out four.
Rookie Julie Medeiros (Derry, N.H.) had two hits for the Eagles, while scoring in the fifth on an Amy Waller (Berlin, Mass.) sacrifice fly, and knocked home Rieger, who had tripled, with two out in the sixth.
Lauren Chesnulevich (Hudson, N.H.) took the tough luck loss (1-3), allowing just one earned run, striking out a career high nine and walking four.
The Eagles return to action next Wednesday, visiting St. Joseph’s, Conn. at 3:30 p.m.
