Softball: Crawford Takes NECC Rookie Of The Week Accolades

Nashua – Chalk up another NECC “Rookie of the Week” award for Daniel Webster College’s Chelsey Crawford, although this time it comes in a new sport.

The Eagles freshman softball player from Westfield, Mass. (Westfield HS) has been named “Rookie of the Week” by the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) after a strong showing in a weekend sweep of Regis College.

Crawford, a freshman center fielder, hit .625 (5-8), slugged 1.125 including two triples, while scoring three runs and knocking in one as the Eagles topped the Pride, 6-3 and 7-6 in nine innings.

Crawford opened the doubleheader going 2 for 4 with a triple, scored once and stole a base and followed by going 3 for 4 with two singles and a triple, scored twice, knocked in a run and also reached on a three-base error.

On the season, Crawford leads the team hitting .450 (9-20) with a double, two triples, three runs scores and two RBI.

A two-sport standout at Daniel Webster, the rookie award is nothing new as Crawford was a four-time Rookie of the Week during this past Fall with the women’s volleyball team and went on to earn league “Rookie of the Year” honors.

Under the guidance of first year Head Coach Alex Hill, the Eagles are 2-5 overall on the early season and return to action Wednesday when they host Fisher College in a regional doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m.
