Softball: Eagles Drop Opener To St. Joseph's
Orlando, Fla. – The Daniel Webster College softball team dropped its season opener by a 10-2 final to St. Joseph’s, Conn. in Orlando Monday afternoon.
The Eagles jumped ahead in the top of the first as sophomore Amy Waller (Berlin, Mass.) led off with a single and later scored on a Lauren Chesnulevich (Hudson, N.H.) RBI double.
But the Blue Jays struck for four runs in the third for a 4-1 lead and the Eagles cut it to two in the top of the fourth as Kristina Rieger (Concord, N.H.) led off with a single and later scored on a Chelsey Crawford (Westfield, Mass.) single.
But the Blue Jays plated six in the bottom of the frame and never looked back to secure the victory.
Junior Amanda Varricchio (Middletown, Conn.) and rookie Kyla Palaschak (E. Bridgewater, Mass.) added singles.
Chesnulevich took the loss (0-1) allowing seven runs (four earned) over four innings, striking out two and walking four.
The Eagles return to action Tuesday facing the University of New England in a doubleheader matchup beginning at 2:00 p.m.
