Men's Volleyball: Gulls Halt Eagles Streak At Eight With 3-0 Sweep
Nashua – Endicott College halted the Daniel Webster men's volleyball program's record eight-match win streak with a 3-0 sweep Saturday in a New England Collegiate Conference matchup at Mario Vagge Gymnasium.
Matt Devendorf (Glastonbury, Conn.) led the Gulls (14-13, 11-0 NECC) with a match-high 11 kills as Endicott combined to hit .256. Jeremy Siden (Natick, Mass.) added seven kills and a match-high 12 digs, Brennan Lowe chipped in with five kills and Brandon Chadwick (Chelmsford, Mass.) had three solo blocks. Endicott scored set scores of 25-10, 25-20, 25-19 to sweep the regular season series from DWC.
Chris Shannon (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) led the Eagles (12-5, 5-5 NECC) with seven kills and six digs while Eric Smith (Clay, N.Y.) had six kills and five digs. Joe Walz chipped in with five kills and two solo blocks. Russell Jennings (Cairo, N.Y.) pulled in four digs. DWC hit .106 as a team.
Kyle Clement (Weymouth, Mass.) dished off 16 assists for the hosts. Jeremy Schlosser (Emmaus, Penn.) handed out 14 assists for the Gulls, while Carter Roche (Clifton Park, N.J.) added 12.
Endicott finished with important advantages in total kills (36-25), digs (37-23) and total blocks (9-4) and hit .500 (12-2-20) in the opening set to set the tone.
Devendorf knocked down six kills in the opening set while Smith had three for DWC. DWC, which finished an even .000 hitting in the first, improved to .206 in the second led by five Walz kills, but Endicott countered with four from Siden and three each from Josh Bruno (Andover, Mass.) and never trailed after taking a 4-3 lead.
DWC led by as many as three (8-5) in the third but the Gulls answered with an 8-2 run to take the lead for good behind three kills each in the set from Lowe, Devendorf and Chadwick and closed it on a Kevin Duggan kill for the 25-19 final.
The Eagles host Emerson on Monday in a regional matchup at 7:00 p.m.
