Men's Soccer: Eagles Tabbed Second In NECC Preseason Coaches' Poll
(Nashua, N.H.) – The Daniel Webster men's soccer team has been picked second in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) preseason coaches' poll, announced today by the conference office.
The Eagles earned 64 total points with one first place vote, while defending tournament champion Lesley University was the top pick with 72 points and five first-place votes.
Southern Vermont (60) was picked third with one first-place vote and Newbury (57) picked up the final two first-place votes.
The remainder of the field included Elms (52), Mitchell (37), Regis (32), Becker (20) and Wheelock (9).
Second year Head Coach Matt Correia's club looks to improve upon a 9-6-2 overall record in 2011 including a 5-1-1 mark in conference play. DWC advanced to the NECC final four for the fourth straight year (a program record), bowing to Lesley in the semifinals. The nine victories tied for the third highest single-season wins total in program history and the program was honored with five all-conference selections.
DWC won NECC tourney titles in 2009 and 2010.
The Eagles open their season on Saturday, September 1st when they host Emmanuel College in a regional matchup beginning at Noon.
