Men's Lacrosse: Eagles Fourth Quarter Comeback Falls Short Against Emerson

Nashua – The Daniel Webster men's lacrosse team scored three times as part of a fourth quarter rally but fell short, dropping an 8-5 decision to Emerson in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup Saturday at Eagle Field.

Dan Gold (Randolph, N.J.) notched five goals and added an assist as the Lions (1-7, 1-6 GNAC) picked up their first victory of the season. Kyle Billings (Westminster, Cal.), Max Smith (Gillette, N.J.), and Sam Massey (Norwalk, Conn.) added single scores with Massey adding two assists.

Kieran Kavanaugh (East Lyme, Conn.) notched a pair of goals and an assist for the Eagles (3-7, 0-7 GNAC), while Nate Burr (Southbury, Conn.) had two scores and Bobby Loranger (Billerica, Mass.) finished with a goal and three assists.

Donald Welch (Mooresville, N.C.) made 12 stops in goal for the Lions, while Tommy Dricoll (South Boston, Mass.) finished with 10 saves for the hosts.

DWC jumped ahead on a Burr score off a Loranger pass 4:35 into the first quarter but Emerson answered with strikes from Gold and Billings in the first and a second quarter score from Gold for a 3-1 lead at the half.

Gold would add goals number two and three within the first 4:20 of the third for a 5-1 lead before Loranger made it 5-2 with 5:26 to go in the quarter.

Massey would up it to 6-2 with 2:58 to go in the third and Gold notched his fourth 4:49 into the fourth for a 7-2 game.

Kavanaugh would answer with two straight off Loranger passes with 8"46 and 5:35 to go to give the Eagles life, but Smith answered 1:26 later for an 8-4 game to help ice it.

Burr would close out the scoring with 2:21 to go.

Emerson would finish with advantages in shots on goal (18-17), face offs (8-7) and clears (13-12) while the Eagles finished with a 23-20 win in groundballs.

The Eagles host Mitchell on Monday in a regional matchup beginning at 4:00 p.m. Emerson hosts Becker in a NECC matchup on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
