Men's Lacrosse: Becker Holds off Eagles In Defensive Battle, 4-2

Leicester, Mass. – Becker College scored three unanswered goals in the second half to hold off Daniel Webster 4-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

Daniel Webster jumped out to an early 1-0 lead just 1:02 into the game when Chris Gordon (Groton, Mass.) fed Justin Chiulli (Saugus, Mass.) for the opening tally.. The Hawks responded  when Jeff Petersen (Syracuse, N.Y.) scampered from behind the Eagles net, ripping a shot into the top left corner of the net.

The game remained tied at 1-1 until 11:18 into the second quarter when Bobby Loranger (Billerica, Mass.) set up Kurtis Fotheringham (Shrewsbury, Mass.)  for the goal, giving the Eagles a 2-1 lead.

Becker tied the game on a man-advantage opportunity just 1:20 into the third quarter with an unassisted goal from James Conley (Barnstable, Mass.). The Hawks took the lead for good 1:01 later when Peterson scored his second goal of the game when he bounced a shot off the turf into the bottom right hand corner of the net. Becker added an unassisted goal from John DeAngelis (Swampscott, Mass.), securing the Hawks first win of the season.

Daniel Webster goalie Tommy Driscoll (South Boston, Mass.) made 18 saves as the Eagles drop to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in league play. Daniel Webster will shoot for their first GNAC victory on Thursday, March 29, when they travel to Saint Joseph's at 7:30 p.m.

Becker goalie Josh Smith (Lewes, DE.) made ten saves as the Hawks improve to 1-6 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The Hawks return to action on Wednesday, March 28, when they host Rivier College at 4:00pm.
