Field Hockey: Eagles Tipped By Wheelock In OT, 2-1

Nashua – Junior forward Despina Savvoulides (Norwalk, Conn.) scored off a breakaway just 37 seconds into overtime giving Wheelock College a 2-1 victory over host Daniel Webster in a New England Collegiate Conference field hockey matchup Saturday at Harvey Woods Field.

Savvoulides' winner, the only shot of the overtime period, was her second game winner in a row as the Wildcats (4-11, 3-1 NECC) won their second straight.

The teams traded goals just 51 seconds early in the first half before playing the remainder of regulation to a stalemate. Savvoulides put the visitors up off a Taylor Rogers (Essex, Mass.) feed at the 3:01 mark but the Eagles (4-7, 2-2 NECC) tied it at the 3:52 mark on Samantha Bark's (Belfast, Maine) tip in of a Shelby Mortin (N. Kingstown, R.I.) cross pass.

Both teams played even throughout. DWC would finish with a 7-6 shots on goal advantage (11-9 overall) although Wheelock would double up DWC in penalty corners (14-7).

Michelle Greene (Mansfield, Mass.) stopped six DWC shots on goal, while Eagle Amy Prince (Hope Valley, R.I.) made four saves.

The Eagles visit Anna Maria on Tuesday in a NECC meeting beginning at 7:00 p.m.
