Field Hockey: Eagles Fall At Rivier In Opener, 4-0

Nashua - Despite the drizzling conditions, the Rivier College Field Hockey team was able to beat cross-town foe Daniel Webster College, 4-0 in non-conference action tonight at Raider Field.

Rivier (1-0) would score the games (and seasons) first goal just three minutes into the frame. Junior Ashley Ruocco (East Kingston, NH) took a pass from freshman Molly Thagouras (Berlin, NH) and put into the net for her first of the season.

Seven minutes later, sophomore Kayla O'Reilly (Marshfield, MA) would find the back of the net as she put in a lose ball infront of DWC goalkeeper Amy Prince (Hope Valley, RI) to give the Raiders an early 2-0 lead.

Ruocco would add her second goal of the game inside the 13 minute mark. After Prince made a save, the rebound fell on the stick of Ruocco who buried it. Junior Rebecca Madanjian (Chelmsford, MA) would complete the scoring as she had an unassisted goal threw traffic at 21:36.

The story of game was freshman goalkeeper Makenzie Flagg (Shirley, MA). In her first collegiate game, Flagg successfully stopped all 10 shots she saw - including a point blank shot by DWC in the second half.

For Daniel Webster (0-1), the received good efforts from sophomore Courtney Brennan (Beverly, MA) and junior Samantha Bark (Belfast, ME). The pair combined for 7 of the team's 10 shots on goal.
