Baseball: Tufts Downs Eagles, 13-1

Nashua – Nate Izzo (Saunderstown, R.I.) went 2 for four with a homer and knocked in four runs and Sam Sager (Cranston, R.I.) went 4 for 6 scoring three runs and knocking two as Tufts topped host Daniel Webster, 11-1 Friday.

Matt Collins (Hopkinton, Mass.) added a 4 for 5 outing knocking in three and Tom Howard (Rockville Center, N.Y.) added two hits and two RBI as the Jumbos (17-8) won their fourth straight with a 16-hit attack.

Dave Ryan (Trumbull, Conn.) moved to 5-1 on the mound, allowing one earned run on six hits over seven innings, striking out eight and walking one.

Rich Lizotte (West Warwick, R.I.) helped plate the Eagles only run with a sacrifice fly to score Joe Morin (Pelham, N.H.) in the seventh. Kyle Brigham (Hudson, N.H.), and Kenny Martin (Brockton, Mass.) doubled for DWC while Tyler Bonin (Litchfield, N.H.) tripled.

Aaron Agrelo (New Bedford, Mass.) took the loss (3-2).

Tufts pushed four runs across in the top of the first on four hits keyed by a two run double from Izzo, and the Jumbos added two in the third for a 6-0 lead.

A Sager RBI double and Collins sac fly to score Sager made it 8-0 in the fourth and Tufts would pull away tacking on two in the seventh, one in the eighth and two in the ninth, including Izzo's fourth of the year, a leadoff solo shot in the final frame.

The Eagles visit regionally ranked Saint Joseph's of Maine on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Tufts visits Williams for a NESCAC doubleheader Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
